Here is part two of my studio lighting series. This one covers how to render you items over a completely white background and the second half shows you how to render out your own fully spherical hdr studio light images for future use. The next installment will cover how to up the photo-realness by adding imperfections to your sky portals. Enjoy!

Hei, Chad this is really great work. Well,am from Africa doing print graphics but want to diversify and start some animation stuff alongside print graphics. Your work is really interesting. Av watched a clip of ur guy doing the zookeeper stuff n its all great. Would like to get some beginner tutorials of animation then i take it on from there. If u don’t mind please forward wat u find necessary to ma email ad. I’ll be glad. Otherwise wil keep on checking ur site whenever.

Thank you very much! -chad
There are tons of resources for training online. I suggest checking cg tuts or getting a subscription to digital tutors. Good luck! -chad
Thanks for taking the time to make these great studio lighting tutorials! I’m new to mental ray, so this is very helpful. What exposure system are you using? I noticed that your light values are pretty close to 1-2, but I find mine have to be much higher when using mr Photographic Exposure.
I generally do not use MR Photographic Exposure control. I don’t do arch viz work, so real light values don’t really matter to me. However, I do use it when I’m using the MR sky system. Thanks for visiting! -chad
Another great tutorial!
Which one is better for those environment maps, HDR or EXR?
The HDR setting (when you open one hdr in max) is quite perplexing though.
Thank again Chad for the nice and straightforward tutorial and I look forward to the 3rd tutorial with a lot of interest!
tnx for sharing these nice ideas/tips!
im looking really forward to that last one of this series … with the inperfections
Thats where its all about in my eyes
